Financial District

Olen tämän postauksen julkaisuhetkellä nauttimassa marraskuisen Lontoon sateista, joten ajattelin iskeä tiskiin vähän lisää kuvia syksyisestä New Yorkista teidän iloksenne. Noin 1,6 miljoonan asukkaan Manhattanin lounaisosassa sijaitsee noin 60 000 asukkaan Financial District. USA:n, ja ei-niin-kovin-liioitellusti myös koko maailman, rahaliikenteen keskus, alue on koti mm. läntisen pallonpuoliskon korkeimmalle rakennukselle, One World Trade Centerille. * * * * * At the time this post is published, I'm enjoying the rainy London, so I thought I'd show you some more photos of New York in September. Financial District in the southeastern part of Manhattan is home to only about 4% of Manhattan's residents, but to more than enough HQs of financial institutions. It is the financial center of the USA, and the whole world for that matter, and it has the Western Hemisphere's tallest building, One World Trade Center.

Oma matkani kohti saaren eteläkärkeä vei Civic Centerin oikeustalojen ohi Brooklyn Bridgen länsipäähän, mutta silta sai vielä hetken odottaa. Otin nimittäin suunnakseni World Trade Centerin. * * * * * I walked to the Financial District past the courthouses of Civic Center and the western end of Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge, however, had to wait a couple of more hours, for I headed to World Trade Center.

9/11 Memorial hiljensi. Aukiolla on myös museo, joka kertoo paitsi syyskuun 11. tapahtumista, myös vuonna 1993 tapahtuneesta WTC:n pommituksesta. Hiljentymisen jälkeen voikin sitten suunnata naapurikorttelin valtavaan Century 21:een (22 Cortlandt St), joka myy ympäri vuoden merkkituotteita tuntuvilla alennuksilla: vaatteita, asusteita, kenkiä, laukkuja, kosmetiikkaa, sisustustavaraa. Kaikkea Chanelista Adidakseen. * * * * * 9/11 Memorial was impressive. There's also a museum that covers not only 9/11, but the WTC bombings of 1993. After a quiet moment by the pools one can head to the huge Century 21 (22 Cortlandt St) which sells numerous brands from Chanel to Adidas with gigantic discounts: clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, cosmetics, home decorations.

Wall Streetin härkää en kuvannut, en jaksanut käyttää kyynärpäätaktiikkaa vaan siirryin suoraan meren äärelle. Itäistä rantaviiva pitkin ei päässytkään ihan suoraan sillalle, mutta hämärien parkkipaikkojen ja sekavien tietyömaiden jälkeen löysin lopulta sisäänkäynnin, tosin en ehkä sitä ihan suosituinta. Myöhemmin luvassa kuvia öisestä Manhattanista! * * * * * I didn't take Wall Street Bull's photograph, didn't have the energy to fight my way through the tourist masses, so I headed straight to the shore. Turns out, you can't enter Brooklyn Bridge straight from the shoreline (on either ends), but I did manage to find my way there through some shady parking lots and confusing roadworks. It probably wasn't the most popular entrance, though. Later some photos of Manhattan at night!
