Gran Canaria 2013 #2: Road trippin'

Gran Canaria on muutakin kuin turisteille suunnattuja rantahotelleja. Tuliperäisen saaren kasvillisuus on monilta osin karua, mutta vehreitäkin sisämaan alueita on. Jos biitsillä makoilu saa jo luvan riittää, niin vuokraa auto ja tee saarikierros! Ihan tuoretta kuskia ei välttämättä kannata rattiin päästää, saattaa muuten jäädä ikuiset traumat - mutkittelevat vuoristotiet ovat kapeita, vaikkakin suurimmalta osin teiden reunoilla on turvakaiteet erottamassa autoilijan sadan metrin pudotuksesta. Mutta maisemat ovat ehdottomasti jännityksen arvoiset! * * * * * * * Gran Canaria is more than just beach hotels. The volcanic island's landscape is mostly rugged, but there are a couple of greener areas too. If you're tired of lying on the beach, rent a car for a day or two and drive around the island! I wouldn't necessarily recommend putting a fresh driver behind the wheel, if you want to avoid any emotional traumas. The winding mountain roads are narrow, though most of the time there is a safety railing between you and a 100-metre drop. Definitely worth the extra adrenaline rush though!

Gran Canaria 2013 #1: Maspalomas

Kuten olenkin jo tainnut mainita, en ole rantalomaihmisiä. Viikko Gran Canarialla oli kuitenkin ihan tervetullut rentoutumisloma, vaikka auringossa ei tullutkaan maattua kuin yhtenä päivänä. Hotellin takaovelta aukeavat Maspalomasin upeat dyynit tarjosivat tutkittavia nurkkia pariksi päiväksi, mutta reissun ehdoton kohokohta oli yhden päivän kruisailu saaren ympäri - tästä lisää myöhemmin. * * * * * * * As I've already mentioned, I'm not a big fan of beach holidays. Nevertheless, a week in Gran Canaria was a relaxing break even though there was only one day when I actually sunbathed. The gorgeous Maspalomas Dunes opened from the back door of our hotel, and they offered something new to see for at least two days. There was also one day, which was the highlight of the week, when we drove around the whole island and its narrow roads, but let's talk more about that later.

Barcelona 2010

Aurinkoa, tapaksia ja sangriaa. Katalonian pääkaupunki ja Espanjan toiseksi suurin kaupunki oli elokuussa 2010 kuuma ja täynnä turisteja, mutta rento ilmapiiri teki tilaa jokaiselle. Kauniin satama-alueen terassit ja Via Laietanan pohjoispuolen savuiset pikkubaarit tarjosivat fantastisia mojitoja ja tiivistä tunnelmaa. * * * * * * * Sun, tapas and sangria. Capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain was hot and full of tourists in August 2010, but the relaxed atmosphere made room for everyone. Street terraces with a view of the beautiful marina and the smokey, small bars north of Via Laietana offered fantastic mojitos and some tight spaces.
