Hyde Park & Dippy the Dinosaur

Lontoon kalleimpien asuinalueiden ympäröimä Hyde Park sijaitsee Länsi-Lontoossa, lyhyen kävelymatkan päässä niin Paddingtonin juna-asemalta kuin Buckinghamin palatsiltakin (jota en muuten vieläkään ole nähnyt!). Marraskuisena perjantaina kiertelimme ystäväni kanssa jonkin aikaa puiston eteläpuoliskoa Knightsbridgen metroasemalta Royal Albert Hallille. * * * * * * * Surrounded by London's most expensive residential areas, Hyde Park is a short walk away from both the Paddington station and the Buckingham Palace (which, by the way, I still haven't seen!). On a Friday in late November me and my friend spent about an hour in the southern half of the park by walking from Knightsbridge tube station to the Royal Albert Hall.

Puistosta on helppo jatkaa pari korttelia etelään ja käydä esim. Exhibition Roadin museoissa: Science Museum (tiedettä ja tekniikkaa, suurilta osin ilmainen), Victoria & Albert (sisustusesineitä, maalauksia) tai National History Museum (dinosauruksia, kasveja, elävää ja elotonta luontoa läpi aikojen, ilmainen), jonka pääaula on varmasti monille tuttu, vaikkei paikalla olisi käynytkään. Parin vuoden päästä aulaan tosin muuttaa sinivalas, jolloin vuodesta 1979 asti kuria pitänyt Dippy siirretään toisiin tehtäviin! And on that bombshell... * * * * * * * You can easily make your way south from the park and visit the museums on Exhibition Road: Science Museum (science and technology, mostly free entrance), Victoria & Albert (decorative arts & design) or the National History Museum (dinosaurs and such), whose main hall you may notice even if you've never visited the place. Though rumour has it, that in a couple of years Dippy the Dinosaur is to be replaced with a blue whale! And on that bombshell...
